Essay activities (sometimes called blog activities) provide response boxes with a text editor, and in some cases file upload options, to allow students to submit their responses for instructor review and evaluation.

How to Complete an Essay Activity

STEP 1: Select a Cirrus Essay Activity.

STEP 2: Read the activity instructions, if any.

STEP 3: Select the ATTEMPT button.

STEP 4: Review the information, if available.

STEP 5: Answer each question by placing the insertion point in the essay box and typing your response. You can use the WYSIWYG Editor to format your responses. Select the Toolbar Toggle button for more options.

STEP 6: Proofread your answers for any typos or spelling errors.

STEP 7: Scroll down and select the Finish attempt … button.

STEP 8: Select the Submit all and finish button to submit your responses to your instructor for grading. (Otherwise, select the Return to attempt button to edit your responses further before submitting them to your instructor.)

STEP 9: The Review page will load. Select the Finish Review and Return to Activity Page button to continue. The green Task button indicates that you successfully submitted an answer for that question. Your instructor will grade your submission.

How to Complete an Essay Activity with File Upload

STEP 1: Select an Essay Activity.

STEP 2: Read the activity description, if any.

STEP 3: Select the ATTEMPT button.

STEP 4: Review the information if available.

STEP 5: Answer each question by placing the insertion point in the essay box and typing your response. You can use the WYSIWYG Editor to format your responses. Select the Toolbar Toggle button for more options.

STEP 6: Proofread your answers for any typos or spelling errors.

STEP 7: The question may indicate that you need to create an additional file, such as a document, a presentation, a spreadsheet, or an image. Create the file on your computer. If you are not sure which program to use, ask your instructor. Be sure to name your file according to the instructions, but replace YourName with your last name.

STEP 8: Scroll down if needed. Drag and drop the files from your computer to the File picker pane.

Alternatively, click in the dotted box and then select the Upload a file button.

Select the Choose File button and navigate to the file on your computer. Double-click the file to choose it.

In the Save As text box, you can rename the file if needed. For the Author text box, enter your first and last name. Select the Upload this file button.

After a few moments, the file should appear in the file picker pane.

STEP 9: Select the Finish attempt … button.

STEP 10: Select the Submit all and finish button to submit your responses and/or file(s) to your instructor for grading. (Otherwise, select the Return to attempt button if you wish to edit your responses or files further before submitting them to your instructor.)

STEP 11: The Review page will load. Select the Finish Review and Return to Activity Page button to continue. The green Task button indicates that you successfully submitted an answer for that question. Your instructor will grade your submission.
