1-Minute Timing 10-Key with Tab

How to Complete the Activity

STEP 1: Locate the 1-Minute Timing 10-Key with Tab or Enter and click on it. Click the Preview button.


STEP 2:  Read the directions, note the page number, and key the paragraph(s) from the text.


STEP 3: In the lower right corner, you will see Time Remaining. This 1:00 will not begin ticking until you start keying. While you are keying the text, the Time Remaining will tick down until it reaches 0:00. At this time keying ceases and your keyed text is scored.

STEP 4: When the one minute timing period is complete, the text will automatically be submitted and scored. In the lower right corner (where the Time Remaining was just displayed), the WPM rate and Errors will be displayed. Any differences from the submitted timing and the model will be marked in red.


How to Review Attempts

STEP 1: Navigate to the 1-Minute Timing drill you wish to review. Click the Student Attempts: # link above the Preview button.


STEP 2: The Report page will be displayed, showing each student’s attempt, the Time the attempt was made, the WPM score and Errors made, a link to Review the attempt, and an option to Delete the attempt.

STEP 3: Click the Review Attempt link in the Review column that corresponds to the students attempt you wish to review.

Multiple attempts

When student’s complete more than one attempt, these additional attempts are listed below the first attempt, though the student’s name is not listed in the First name/Last name column.

STEP 4: The attempt will display on the screen. At the top, the student’s name is displayed, along with the Attempt number that is being reviewed, the Time the attempt was made, and the WPM rate and Errors.

Result and Model Text

The Result Text is the text that was keyed during the 1-minute timing. All mistakes are shown with red strike-through text. The Model Text is from the book and what the Result Text was scored against.


How to Delete an Attempt

STEP 1: Navigate to the 1-Minute Timing drill you wish to review. Click the Student Attempts: # link above the Preview button.


STEP 2:  Select the checkbox in the Delete column that corresponds to the student attempt(s) you want to delete. Click the With Selected… drop-down and choose Delete.


STEP 3: Click OK to confirm you wish to delete this attempt.

Attempts cannot be recovered

Once an attempt has been deleted, it cannot be recovered.
